Broadway Cab is the oldest and largest taxicab company in Portland. The company was founded in 1930 and has had a variety of ownership structures since then. The most recent and current ownership is a small group of private investors. In September of 2007, Broadway acquired Sassy's Cab Co., Inc. The two companies combined operate a fleet of more than 312 cars and 376 drivers. Broadway Cab is led by general manager Steve Hext.
In August of 2007, Broadway Cab moved from its 21-year Northwest Portland location to a new building on Northeast Killingsworth Street, designed by local architect Elizabeth Stuart Williams and constructed by Barrs and Genauer Construction, Inc., a progressive company that specializes in commercial green building. The building is high performance and environmentally friendly, and Barrs was persistent in constructing the building to be "solar-ready."
